WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama had a "robust conversation" on Friday with his top advisers about the political and security challenges in Afghanistan and the options for a new strategy, the White House said.
The meeting was one of series that Obama has had as he tries to develop a new strategy for the conflict amid reports that his top general in the region has asked for up to 40,000 additional troops. Friday's meeting was expected to be the first to directly discuss Gen. Stanley McChrystal's recommendations for the war.
