WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) - First Lady Michelle Obama's visit to a Washington, DC area school quickly shifted topics when a second grader asked about immigration policy.

Mrs. Obama was teaching students about the importance of diet and exercise when a pupil asked, "My mom said, I think that she says that, Barack Obama is taking everybody away that doesn't have papers."

Mrs. Obama responded by saying immigration is an important issue to work on. She said her husband is focused on making sure members of Congress work together so people can get the "right kind of papers."

That discussion happened as both President Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderon discussed immigration policy during Calderon's White House visit. Obama said he sympathizes with those who are frustrated about the federal government's failure to repair the broken immigration system. He said he shares those frustrations.
