Green Bay, Wi(WSAU) Green Bay Packers’ general manager Ted Thompson held his pre-draft news conference yesterday. And as always, he gave away virtually nothing about his draft strategy. As the Super Bowl champions, the Packers have the 32nd-and-final pick in the first round that will take place next Thursday night. As the N-F-L owners’ lockout continues, the draft is about the only piece of real news these days – and Thompson says most of the so-called draft experts don’t know what they’re talking about. Most of the Packers’ stars came from Thompson’s drafts, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers and linebacker Clay Matthews. The G-M said the Packers would continue their policy of taking the best player available when they’re on the clock. He says he really won’t know the team’s needs until around August – which he found out a year ago. Asked if the Packers might go for a receiver with the possible loss of James Jones to free agency, Thompson said he was happy with the wide-outs he has now.
