MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - The mayor of Milwaukee will begin his second trade mission to China on Sunday.
Business and education leaders will join Tom Barrett on a week-long trip to the expanding port city of Ningbo, plus China’s capital of Beijing.
Barrett says the trip is designed to create new markets for products made in Milwaukee – and to encourage China to invest in Wisconsin’s largest city. The mayor says both those efforts could result in new jobs for southeast Wisconsin.
Barrett’s first China trip was in 2005. Milwaukee has an informal sister-city relationship with Ningbo, and Barrett says he wants to build on the economic and cultural ties between the two cities.
Tim Sheehy, head of the Metro Milwaukee Association of Commerce, will join Barrett on the trip.
