Milwaukee, Wi (WSAU) Milwaukee Brewers’ second baseman Rickie Weeks says he’s interested in pursuing a multi-year contract – but not after spring training begins. At the “Brewers On Deck” fan festival yesterday, Weeks said he didn’t want to be distracted by contract matters while he gets ready for the season. Brewers’ assistant general manager Gord Ash said it’s still possible to reach a multi-year deal by February 17th, when Weeks is scheduled to have a salary arbitration hearing if the two sides cannot agree on a one-year contract before then. This is the final year of Weeks’ current contract, and he’ll become a free agent is deal isn’t made before the end of the season. Weeks made two-and-three-quarter million dollars last year. He has asked for seven-point-two million in his arbitration request for this year. A record of over 11-thousand fans attended the “Brewers on Deck” event at Milwaukee’s Frontier Airlines Center.
