NEW YORK (WKZO) -- Gun Violence. It’s an issue in many west Michigan communities, especially in Kalamazoo where it has sparked a community campaign.

Former Michigan State Spartan and New York Giant Plaxico Burris says he is going to be working with groups and speaking out on the issue. He accidentally shot himself in a New York nightclub just 9 months after catching the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl.

He says he is a good example of what a bad choice can do.   Burris spent nearly two years in prison for illegal possession.

Burris is being mentored by former Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy who also worked with Michael Vick after his dog-fighting conviction.
