KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo school trustees say the Governor may be saying that he doesn’t plan to cut school funding this year, but its what he is not saying that has them worried. He didn’t mention the issue during the State of the State address, but he did hint the surplus may go into savings.
Trustees Carol McGlinn and Mark Totten says the Governor may say he is keeping funding at its current level, but if the legislature doesn’t renew one-time incentives and aid provided last year, it would leave them with a 6.6-million dollar shortfall this year. Superintendant Michael Rice says the way the Governor does math and the way they do it are quite different. They will know when he releases his budget.
They are calling on parents to get in touch with legislators and let them know how they feel about more cuts to public schools.
