Elton John appeared on ABC's Good Morning America Monday morning to reveal details of his upcoming Super Bowl commercial for Pepsi, in which he plays an imperious king, complete with robe and crown, who judges the singing ability of X Factor winner Melanie Amaro. “I love being the king [in the ad]," Elton admitted to GMA . "But it’d be too dangerous for me to be the king [in real life]. I’ve got too many things inside my head that would say ‘off with their heads.’"
Elton also commented on the upcoming Super Bowl half time show, which will feature a performance from his frenemy, Madonna. When asked what advice he had for her, Elton sniped, "Be sure you lip-sync good!" However, he then admitted that he isn't sure if artists are even allowed to perform live at the Super Bowl. Elton, a huge football fan, also told GMA dismissively that he'd "never" seen a half time show that was "decent," but then backtracked and admitted he thought the Rolling Stones and Prince were pretty good.
This year, in addition to appearing in the Super Bowl commercial, Elton will watch the game because he has a vested interest in the Giants vs. Patriots match-up. "I'm hoping for a Patriots win this year because [Patriots owner] Robert Kraft is my dear friend," he explained. "And he lost his lovely wife Myra this year and I would love the Patriots to win for her." Elton says he really gets into the game, too: "You can't watch sport without being passionate, come on!" he said. "I scream at the television!"
Elton added that right now, his son Zachary doesn't seem to be too interested in football, but he's already into soccer. "He's too young to catch the ball yet, but he kicks the ball and he loves it, and he likes watching soccer on the TV," said Elton.
