KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The only soup kitchen in Kalamazoo that planned to serve a free Thanksgiving dinner this year has had to cancel that effort due to a lack of funds.
God’s Kitchen of Michigan, a hunger-relief charity servicing Battle Creek and Kalamazoo has canceled its Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner scheduled for Wednesday, November 25.
“As a soup kitchen, we depend on donations to purchase food and supplies for our holiday events,” said Pastor William Stein, Chairman of God’s Kitchen of Michigan. “Food is not cheap. We pay retail for the food just like everyone else.” The charity does not receive government funding for its operations.
“COVID-19 was not the cause for our cancelation, funding is the culprit.”
The deadline to receive donations for Kalamazoo’s Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner was this past Sunday, November 15. Their GoFundMe campaign is still ongoing as the charity prepares for their three Christmas dinners in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo.
Donations should be mailed to God’s Kitchen of Michigan, P.O. Box 2632, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49003, or online at www.gofundme.com/f/KalamazooChristmasDinner2020.
Please designate where you want your donation to be applied.
