LANSING (WHTC-AM/FM) — With Michigan’s COVID-19 restrictions set to expire on Tuesday, December at midnight, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, and MDHHS Director Robert Gordon are set to hold a press conference at 2:30 p.m. today.
This comes shortly after Michigan Health & Hospital Association officials made a public, joint appeal to state officials to extend the restrictions, citing a slight dip in the numbers of people getting ill.
Despite that, MHHA officials said, critical healthcare worker staffing shortages and troubling bed capacity numbers continue.
“Our teams on the front lines are exhausted as this second surge continues; we never truly recovered from the first,” according to the statement posted on the association’s website, adding that extending the restrictions will provide valuable respite from the surge for those on the front lines.
