HOMER, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An armed man claiming he was conducting a 2nd Amendment Audit caused a school lockdown in Homer Monday, according to a report from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m., when reports were received of a white man wearing camouflage with an AR-15 strapped across his chest, along with two pistols on his belt.
The man was reported walking downtown and in residential neighborhoods, and the local school was placed on lockdown as a result.
Police say it was nearly the school’s release time, which would mean greater bus traffic and youth pedestrians.
Once deputies made contact with the man, he began recording the incident and said that he was conducting a 2nd Amendment Audit.
When deputies explained that his actions were impacting local school operations, the man cooperated and Homer Community Schools lifted the lockdown.
No other information was made available about this incident.
