KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – This summer, two of Kalamazoo’s hunger-relief charities, God’s Kitchen of Michigan and Broncos Kitchen, are joining forces to serve 10,000 free dinners to fight hunger in Kalamazoo county.
Officials say the project, called the “Big Give,” is designed to celebrate God’s Kitchen’s 10-year anniversary, while simultaneously combating hunger in the cities of Kalamazoo, and Portage and Oshtemo Township.
Starting June 1 through August 18, six parks, three churches, a student apartment complex, and the Douglass Community Association will host the 40 dinners, all
of which are scheduled to be served from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
A kick-off celebration is planned for Tuesday, June 1 at Milham Park.
At that event, officials say barbecue chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, a vegetarian dish, dessert and bottled water are on the menu.
Participants are limited to one meal per person, and you must be present to receive a dinner.
All meals are free and open to the public until they run out of food, and there are no income or identification requirements to participate.
In addition, officials say a special commemorative t-shirt will be sold for $20 each to help defray costs associated with God’s Kitchen of Michigan’s 10-year anniversary celebration.
The charities have also set up a GoFundMe page to accept donations online. Viewers can visit http://www.gofundme.com/
