SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says an arrest has been made in a Sheridan Township home invasion and sexual assault which took place last weekend.
29-year-old Chase Adam Baxter of Jackson was arrested Tuesday at his residence by the Michigan State Police Second District Fugitive Team on a warrant charging him with three counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct, first degree home invasion, unlawful driving away of a automobile and domestic violence.
The Sheriff’s Office say the alleged incident happened at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning in the 15000 block of 28 Mile Road.
The alleged victim reported that she was woke up by her ex-boyfriend sexually assaulting her in her bed. She was eventually able to flee from the residence and flag down a passerby who took the victim to the Albion Department of Public Safety. The suspect fled the residence and reportedly stole the victim’s car along with her cell phone.
Calhoun County Sheriff Detectives found the woman’s cell phone hidden inside of Baxter’s bedroom.
Baxter is free after posting a $10,000 cash bond. He is currently awaiting a preliminary exam.
Deputies were assisted by Albion Department of Public Safety, the Michigan State Police and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
