KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Kalamazoo man accused in a 2019 shooting death will be facing charges, according to an update from MLive on Monday.
Previously, police were investigating the shooting death of 20-year-old Antonio Dewayne Reese-Manley on September 21st, 2019. That shooting took place at Fox Ridge Apartments.
Reese-Manley was shot following an encounter with the suspect, and was later pronounced dead at Bronson Methodist Hospital.
36-year-old Scott Kenneth Jones was later developed as a suspect in the case. A warrant for his arrest was issued a week after the shooting, but he wouldn’t be apprehended until he was found in Montgomery, Illinois the following January.
The reason the trial has taken so long to get started is largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Monday, MLive reported that Jones was in court on September 17 for a preliminary hearing. He faces charges relating to felony firearms and open murder.
At this time, Jones remains at the Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility in Ionia for an alleged parole violation, MLive reported.
His next court date will be on October 18.
