BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – United States Congressman Peter Meijer has recognized God’s Kitchen of Michigan for serving the homeless and other needy citizens in Battle Creek for the past decade.
The charity was incorporated on January 20, 2011, and served its first meal at First Baptist Church on October 11 of that same year.

On October 11, 2021, the hunger-relief charity celebrated its 10-year anniversary at their First United Methodist Church meal site in the Cereal City.
A total of 159 fried chicken dinners were served to the homeless and others in need who ventured down to the church for a free dinner.
An additional 90 meals were dispatched to feed the Lakeview High School Marching Band, thanks to Lan Huynh, God’s Kitchen of Michigan’s Battle Creek Volunteer of the Year, and a mother to one of the band members.
Four Battle Creek area businesses were recognized for their decades-long commitment in support of the hunger-relief charity.
Officials named them as Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 333, International Brotherhood of Electrical Works Local 445, Meijer on B Drive and Sam’s Club.
“We praise all of the wonderful individuals, families, board members, churches, unions, youth groups, and media outlets for supporting our efforts to serve nearly 150,000 free dinners over the past decade,” Co-Founder and Chairmen of God’s Kitchen of Michigan Pastor William Stein said in a statement. “God bless you all.”
n addition to acknowledging the hunger-relief charity’s 10-year anniversary, Congressman Peter Meijer took a moment to honor the late Joan Lafayette for her contribution.
Ms. Lafayette was a co-founder and vice-chair. She died of natural causes on February 5 of this year.
