KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Broncos Kitchen Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit hunger-relief charity, has announced the appointment of new student board members from Western Michigan University (WMU) to diversify its membership.
Andrew Messecar, a founding board member and WMU graduate, was elected as the new co-chairman. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in engineering and applied sciences.
Joanna Bishop is the board’s new vice-chairperson. She is a junior at WMU majoring in paper engineering and a member of the Lee Honors College.
Sai Myint is a new board trustee and veterans outreach chairman. A U.S. Navy Veteran, Sai is a junior majoring in food and consumer package goods marketing. He is a member of the Food Marketing Association and Student Veterans of America-WMU on campus.
Other board members include the following:
- Scott Brenner, E.S. Contracting, co-chairman;
- Christine Brenner, Dermatological Surgery Center, LLC., Secretary/Treasurer;
- Revered Mary Gault, Teacher, Pennfield Schools (retired), and
- the Honorable Julie Rogers (D-60th), Michigan House of Representatives.
Both Gault and Rogers are said to be honorary board members.
Broncos Kitchen Foundation officially launched a capital campaign to raise $3.1 million in October.
The funds will be used for property acquisition, construction of an office/commissary, purchase new operating equipment, buy a small fleet of food trucks and hire 20 to 25 full- and part-time employees.

The goal of the organization is to provide free dinners to food-insecure college students attending Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College and Kalamazoo Valley Community College. It is not affiliated with WMU.
