KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Governor Gretchen Whitmer announcing on Friday a new round of funding grants awarded to 10 Michigan arts and cultural organizations to continue supporting local communities and economies across the state.
As part of a nationwide effort to support arts and artists in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Endowment for the Arts is awarding a total of $1.35 million dollars to the state, with $150-thousand of it going to the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.
“These grants will be critical to growing our economy, supporting community artistic organizations, and creating local jobs” said Whitmer. “From paying for personnel expenses and safety supplies to keeping the lights on, these grants will make a difference for the recipients, and in turn, create local jobs and benefit local communities. I am immensely grateful to the National Endowment for the Arts for their efforts to support the arts, artists, and cultural organizations that enrich our communities.”

Interlochen Center for the Arts, Interlochen – $150,000
Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, Peshawbestown – $150,000
Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Kalamazoo – $150,000
Ann Arbor Art Association, Ann Arbor – $100,000
Access (on behalf of Arab American National Museum), Dearborn – $100,000
Detroit Public Theatre, Detroit – $100,000
Heritage Works, Detroit – $150,000
Michigan Opera Theatre, Detroit – $150,000
Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, Detroit – $150,000
Sphinx Organization, Inc., Detroit – $150,000
