CASS COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Troopers from the Michigan State Police Niles Post are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash Friday around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Redfield Street and Kline Road in Cass County’s Milton Township.
Their preliminary investigation shows that 38-year-old Buchanan driving a 2019 black Dodge Nitro was traveling westbound on Redfield Street when he attempted to overtake other vehicles not involved in the crash. However, the vehicle collided with a Ford pickup that was attempting to make a left turn onto Kline Road from Redfield Street.
The impact of the collision caused the Dodge Nitro to roll over multiple times, ejecting the driver from the vehicle. He was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital and later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Ford pickup was described as a 59-year-old Edwardsburg man. He was treated by medic at the scene for minor injuries only.
There were no other occupants in either vehicle and it is unknown if seatbelts were used or if alcohol was a factor.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
