KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — National Rail Safety Week is getting on track next week on Monday, September 19th.
Safety officials are calling it a week to promote safety around railroad tracks all in an effort to raise rail safety awareness from September 19 to September 23.
A special Kick-off event will be held in Kalamazoo at the Amtrak Station at 459 North Burdick Street. The event will feature informational displays and guest speakers to include State Representative Christine Morse of Kalamazoo.
Other speakers will include Jon Cool – Michigan Railroads Association, Curtis Stewart – Michigan Operation Lifesaver, Michigan State Police, railroad police, and other law enforcement officers.
The kick-off event is spearheaded by Operation Lifesaver, Incorporated in partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation and other safety organizations, who are also reminding people that a person or vehicle is struck by a train every three hours in the U.S.
