BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A 20-year-old man has pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter of a 27-year-old father during a 2019 robbery in Battle Creek.
WOOD TV-8 reporting that 20-year-old Trenten Cohoon pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter and armed robbery on October 10.
The charges stemm from the death of 27-year-old Michael Corbin, who was found dead in his home in Battle Creek by his brother on November 23, 2019. Corbin had been shot three times.
According to investigators, Cohoon and Colbie McGinn, who were both 17 at the time, were attempting to steal a lockbox from Corbin’s home when the shooting happened. The two juveniles were arrested and charged a few days later.
McGinn was found guilty of first-degree murder, armed robbery and felony firearm charges in September, according to the Calhoun County Prosecutor.
Cohoon sentencing is scheduled for December 2.
Since Cohoon and McGinn were 17-year-old minors at the time of the murder, under Michigan law, the court will determine whether life in prison without parole is an appropriate sentence.
