KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — After being selected as the number one Kalamazoo City Attorney Candidate, James Porter is withdrawing his name from consideration for the position.
According to a news release from the City of Kalamazoo, Porter informed the Kalamazoo City Commission Monday, January 9 that he was withdrawing his name from consideration due to personal family matters.
He was chosen to fill the job of current City Attorney Clyde Robinson who announced his pending retirement, with a tentative date set for February 1, 2023.
After interviewing three candidates for the City Attorney position on December 1 of last year, the Kalamazoo City Commission voted unanimously on December 19 to begin contract negotiations with Porter, who is currently the Township Attorney for Oshtemo Charter Township.
The City Commission will discuss their next steps for the City Attorney search at their Tuesday, January 17 meeting at Kalamazoo City Hall at 7:00 p.m.
