CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A second recall petition has been submitted by Marshall Township registered voter Glenn Kowalske in his quest to remove Marshall Township Trustee Robert Lyng from office over the Marshall Megasite.
His first attempt was stopped last week by the Calhoun County Election Commission when they decided on a 2-1 vote that the first recall petition filed by Kowalske lacked sufficient clarity and could not be circulated.
Kowalske claimed Lyng had a conflict of interest since he was a township planning commissioner and trustee while serving on the Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance’s board of directors.
Michigan Election Law requires the County Election Commission to review the language of recall petitions before they can be circulated. The Calhoun County Probate Judge, Calhoun County Clerk, and the Calhoun County Treasurer will hold a Clarity/Factual Review Hearing on Tuesday April 11, 2023, beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the Calhoun County Building on Green Street in Marshall.
County officials say the purpose of the hearing is to determine whether each reason for the recall stated in the petitions is factual and of sufficient clarity. The hearing is not for the purpose of debating the merit of the allegations.
