KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A new roundabout is on it’s way to Kalamazoo County. And the Road Commission of Kalamazoo County say that construction is on schedule.
Officials say work on the project located near Kalamazoo Central High School is tentatively scheduled to start in 2024.
The project involves converting the four-way stop intersection at North Drake Road and Squires Drive to a roundabout from it’s current setup of a four-way stop with turn lanes.
Officials go onto say that the work will be done in two phases, “phase A,” and “phase B.” During “phase A,” Drake Road will be closed at the intersection of H Avenue/Squires Drive as crews reconstruct the intersection and establish the roundabout.
Squires Drive is set to be reconstructed during “phase B” where crews will close Squires Drive between Drake Road and Ravine Road.
The total estimated cost of the project is 1.3 million, with the agency receiving $750,000 dollars in federal safety funding.
