KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Climate Crisis Coalition along with the Western Michigan University Climate Change Working Group is inviting the Kalamazoo community to a rally and march this afternoon, (Thursday, July 13).
The march is set to begin on the steps of Kalamazoo’s City Hall at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon with statements from community members about:
1) the connection between the recent smoke from wildfires in Canada and the global climate crisis;
2) the health impacts of the smoke and of the climate crisis; and,
3) the urgency of the city and county taking local action to mitigate and adapt to climate change in concert with the Governor Whitmer’s Mi Healthy Climate Plan.
Organizers say that participants will be wearing respirators and other masks, carrying signs, inflated balloons in the shape of flames, and a large, inflated globe.
They go onto say there will be local scientists and doctors at the march who can speak on the urgency of the climate crisis and the health impacts of the wildfire smoke.
All members of the community are welcome to participate.
