BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A man was sentenced on Friday, July 21 in Calhoun County Circuit Court for the death of his girlfriend’s son.
Court records show that 21-year-old Henry Jones Jr. was sentenced to life in prison without parole for murder.
The Battle Creek Police Department said that Jones killed 18-month-old Dre’Quan Scott while babysitting the child at a Battle Creek Home in November of 2020. The toddler died at the hospital hours after Jones dropped the child at a relative’s home according to police.
The child’s death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner.
Authorities say Jones then went on the run but was arrested near Kalamazoo nearly two months later.
