PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Portage Public Safety officers and volunteers from Twelve Baskets Food Pantry joined together yesterday to accept food donations at Sam’s Club on South Westnedge from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Battalion Chief Lou Playford says having a fire truck with Christmas lights “makes a pretty effective billboard when you’re trying to push a cause.”
He says they want people to know they’re not just there when 9-1-1 is called and are active in the community.
The Stuff a Fire Truck food drive was done to benefit Twelve Baskets Food Pantry, which is serving nearly 400 people a week.
