COVERT TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission says they are doing what they can to ensure the possible restart of the Palisades nuclear power plant in Covert Township is done safely.
The NRC held a public meeting last night to hear people’s concerns.
NRC co-chair of the Palisades Restart Panel Jamie Pelton says the meetings are meant to show transparency.
Plenty of southwest Michigan residents spoke out against restarting the plant last night.
Holtec is planning to refire the plant, making it the first nuclear power plant in the U.S. to be restarted after being shut down for decommissioning.
The NRC will hold another meeting in the next few months.
