BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany’s ruling Social Democrats (SPD) on Monday officially made Chancellor Olaf Scholz their lead candidate for the upcoming snap election giving him a chance at a second term, broadcaster NTV said.
The announcement comes after popular Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said last Thursday he was not available for the job, putting an end to weeks of speculation over whether or not he should lead the SPD into the election instead of Scholz.
