KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Blue Dolphin Restaurant in Kalamazoo continued it’s family tradition on Christmas Day by giving out free Christmas meals to the community.
Restaurant owner Steve Stamos, family and staff handed out to-go meals from 12 until 2 p.m. Saturday, December 25, in the form of a free prime rib dinner with mash potatoes and green beans or a turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes and green beans.
Despite almost being canceled due to COVID, Stamos says they were able to hand out around 900 meals.
“Unfortunately a big part of this each year is that a lot of people have nobody to talk to so they come in and socialize but we just can’t do that, because of the pandemic, and it’s breaking my heart,” Stamos said in an interview with WWMT. “But at least we can still feed people.”
This marks the 43rd year in a row the restaurant has provided Christmas meals to the community, a tradition that began when the Stamos family began handing out meals at Rex’s Cafe in 1978.
