KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The City of Kalamazoo Public Services Department is set to begin hydrant flushing on Sunday, April 17.
Flushing is expected to take place mostly overnight between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and finish up on Thursday, April 28.
There may also be some daytime flushing between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. when necessary.
City officials say the flushing will clear hydrants and water mains of accumulated sediments which can build up inside water distribution pipes, narrowing the water flow to homes and businesses.
Residents should be aware that tap water may appear cloudy or discolored after the flushing. They are encouraged to to run cold water until the cloudy water becomes clear.
According to the city’s Public Service Department, flushing will not affect water safety or supply.
