KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Even though the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners is shrinking from 11 to nine members, Democrats will still hold the majority on the board.
Unofficial election results posted to the Kalamazoo County election results page just before 9:00 a.m. Wednesday show the board seats will be filled by six Democrats and three Republicans. Five incumbents will return to the board, along with four new members.
Those elected Tuesday are:
Tami Rey, Democrat, District One
Jen Strebs, Democrat, District Two
Monteze Morales, Democrat, District Three
Abigail Wheeler, Democrat, District Four
John Patrick Taylor, Democrat, District Five
John Gisler, Republican, District Six
Jeff Heppler, Republican, District Seven
Wendy Mazer, Republican, District Eight
Dale Deleeuw, Democrat, District Nine
Six current commissioners did not enter the race this election cycle. Democrats Tracy Hall, Veronica McKissack, Mike Quinn, and Fran Bruder Melgar chose not to run for reelection. On the Republican side, Dale Shugars and Roger Tuinier did not run for reelection.
