ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – St. Joseph County Commissioner Dennis Allen is set to run for the position of county sheriff.
Allen, who spent four years as a chairman for the Board of Commissioners and 26 years at the county sheriff’s office, announced his campaign for sheriff on Thursday, May 18.
Allen faces two other candidates: Public safety instructor with the St. Joseph County CTE consortium, Chad Spence, and former county employee, Joe Bingaman.
The county’s current sheriff Mark Lillywhite was sentenced to one year probation following a drunk driving crash on US-131 south of Schoolcraft, February 26th. He pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges, operating while intoxicated and carrying a concealed weapon.
“Transparency will be the avenue to restoring the great reputation of the people’s Sheriff’s Department. As a trusted and respected servant of the residents of St. Joseph County for over 35 years, I promise that will be my top priority,” said Allen.
