FREMONT, IN (WKZO AM/FM) – Two suspects from Kalamazoo were arrested Friday in Fremont, Indiana after the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Branch County Sheriff’s Office with a vehicle pursuit.
The pursuit started on Old U.S. 27 near Central Road and went south just after 11:00 a.m.
Speeds were reported to be as high as 100 miles an hour during the pursuit. The suspect vehicle was said to be connected to a Coldwater Police Department larceny investigation after they got a report of two suspects stealing mail at Avra Estates on Garfield Avenue. Deputies noticed mail on Angola Road near Fenn Road.
The pursuit continued heading south into Steuben County, Indiana where the Branch County deputy got assistance from Indiana authorities. The blue 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee was being pursued for excessive speed and failing to stop for a police officer. The chase eventually headed east on State Road 120 towards Fremont. Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies deployed stop sticks west of Fremont in order to end the pursuit prior to it reaching the town limits.
The suspect vehicle struck the stop sticks and continued heading east through downtown Fremont. Branch County Sheriff’s deputies were then able to get the vehicle stopped at the intersection of Ray and Spring Streets on Fremont’s east side.
The female driver fled from the vehicle on foot and was quickly captured behind a residence by the Branch County Sheriff’s Office. Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies were able to apprehend the male passenger at the vehicle.
The driver was identified as 37 year old Ashley Rose Daniels. The passenger was identified as 43 year old David Danquan Williams.
Daniels complained of arm pain from a previous unrelated injury and was transported to Cameron Hospital by ambulance before being booked into the Steuben County Jail on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, reckless driving, and being in possession of Marijuana.
Williams was found to have an active felony arrest warrant out of Kalamazoo County and was booked into the Steuben County Jail on the fugitive warrant and was awaiting extradition.
The incident remains under investigation and additional criminal charges are being sought against Daniels and Williams by the Branch County Sheriff’s Office.
Assisting both Sheriff’s Offices at the scene were the Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, and Steuben County EMS.
