ALLEGAN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Allegan is set to get a $2 million dollar boost in it’s efforts to rebuild the downtown area.
That money is coming in the state’s budget for next year.
Both State Senator Aric Nesbitt and State Representative Mary Whiteford are backing the plan to rebuild downtown Allegan. This plan has been in the works since 2018.
In addition to state funding, $250,000 will come from the Federal Government, which is expected to rebuild Brady, Hubbard, and Locust Streets in downtown.
Infrastructure improvements also on the list include new water and sewer mains, removal of lead service lines, new roads, wider sidewalks, and a new pedestrian plaza.
Construction expected to begin in 2023 and last 12 to 18 months.
